Cactus & Succulent Society of Australia
Written by Webmaster

Our Society is a fun and friendly organisation that prides itself on having members from all walks of life and of all ages, whether a botanist or home gardener. We have a lot to offer.

The Society holds monthly meetings where members have the opportunity to view expert growers' collections and seek their professional advice. Or perhaps just join to receive our fantastic full colour journal as many people do.

The CSSA's Succulents & Cacti Show is an annual Spring event, consisting of a large display area with decorative and rare plants. This is complemented by unrivalled plant competitions as well as sales of specialized books and plants.

The Society also aims to advance the understanding and appreciation of cacti and succulents worldwide. Through education and scientific study we encourage conservation through cultivation.

The Cactus and Succulent Society of Australia Inc (CSSA) is the oldest Cactus and Succulent Society in Australia, established in Melbourne in 1927. Similar societies are located Australia wide, in most capital cities and some country areas (see links page for more).

Our Autumn Cactus Show and Plant Sale was held Monte Villa Motor Inn and Reception Centre, 78 Old Geelong Rd,Hoppers Crossing (as part of a three day cacti and succulent conference with one day day open to the public).)

Unlike our regular spring show and plant sale, many growers had plants that only came into their best growth and display  during autumn, and so this was a great opportunity to see plants that you might otherwise never come across.

Unique to this event were many interstate growers and sellers. This was a very rare opportunity for cactus and succulent lovers. Also we offered world expert/s who had incredible pictures and stories to share.

This was a joint activity by the Melbourne and Ballarat Societies.

Nearly 400 people attended (registered attendees and public) and we had a turnover in the plants sales tent of over $26,000).
