- SHAPE :Small and globose.
- RIBS : Usually tuberculate becoming rib like.
- AREOLE : Distinct wooly.
- SPINES : Usually plentiful mostly short.
- FLOWERS : Of all colours often large, funnelform and short-lived (1-2 days), borne on shoulders, open day, usually have narrow scales on the outer petals and floral tubes that often bear hairs or bristles.
