ECHINOCACTUS (Barrel Cacti) (6 species) |

- SHAPE :The largest of the globular cacti, from 30cm to 100cm wide and 30cms to 2m high.
- RIBS : Initial tubercles then strongly ribbed, usually straight, covered at the top with dense masses of yellowish wool.
- AREOLE : Areoles large, usually elongate densely woolly.
- SPINES : Very strong spines.
- FLOWERS : Late Spring through Autumn borne at the top, short funnelform to bell shaped, usually yellow, in spring and summer; outer petals and floral tubes with numerous narrow, pointed or spine-tipped scales.
