Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus

:: Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus -- This is the smallest of all the Ariocarpi, rarely exceeding 7cm.  It may be found in numerous states, including San Louis Potosi, Tamaulipas and Queretaro.

The Ariocarpus Kotschoubeyanus is named after its discoverer, Prince Kotschoubey.  It is characterized by wooly areoles which thin out at the tip of each tubercle.  Typically, the Ariocarpus Kotschoubeyanus develops magenta flowers that are usually larger than the plant itself.  However, a white-flowering form exists named Albiflora.  Recently, two different forms have been identified and granted their own status as Kotschoubeyanus varieties: Ariocarpus Kotschoubeyanus v Macdowellii and v Sladcovskyi. ::
