Ariocarpus fissuratus
:: Ariocarpus fissuratus -- Small numbers of this species may be found in some southern sates of the USA as well as the Mexican states of Coahuila, Durango and Chihuahua. This species' epithet was adopted due to the plant's leaves having fissures or wrinkles (fissuratus = with fissures). Its appearance makes the plant difficult to locate in habitat, acting like camouflage against the rocky areas in which it grows. This mimicry has led to the plant being commonly named as the 'living rock'. The Ariocarpus fisuratus produces large, diurnal pink flowers. :: Ariocarpus fissuratus
